White colored ducts get more and more specified for projects
in hot destinations, versus standard black colored ducts.

Temperature tests show up to 15°C lower duct temperature
during installation in summer and by this ducts keep higher
performance in longitudinal and lateral load performances
specially required during duct installation.

White PESTEC IP 4 ducts are uv-stabilized and heat stabilized
to keep their properties either by outside storage until use.

Heat shrink pipes are now also available in colored version
e.g. white, so following architecture design requirements
for visible constructions. Technical properties remain the same as
black heat shrink pipes. On request colored heat shrink pipes
are available with similar uv-protection as our NOCX pipes.
Heating of colored heat shrink pipes is recommended using
a heat gun instead a flame gun to avoid colored fire spots.
Final shrinkage result is the same, just shrinking time is little longer.

PESTEC passed ASTM F 2136 Notched Constant Ligament
Stress Crack Test min 65 hours complying with FDOT for
PESTEC PP grout ports and 20 hours for PF PE couplers.

PESTEC offer new drill tool to be used for all size of PT ducts
including small size ducts.

PESTEC introduce new IP 4 Duct Size 36/46/2.0 mm to use for 3 strands
round where no flat duct can be used.
All accessories like PF and PFS couplers are available and also still our
grout port system works for this small duct size.
Ducts also can be connected by butt welding using our IP 4 butt welding
equipment.
Of course ducts comply with FIB 7 and PTI specifications.

PESTEC also prepares for new IP 4 Duct Size 44/54/2.0 mm to use for
4 strands round.

PESTEC introduce new Inflatable Rubber Hoses to use as temporary
internal bonded PT pipe stiffener during concreting of segments and
structures designed in sizes. where concrete load can not anymore
taken by the plastic duct themselves.

Inflatable Rubber Hoses are available in sizes 25-250 mm with wall
thickness of 8-15 mm. They are expandable 15-25 mm depending
on size and may be used for min 200 times at max elasticity.
Max available length is 30 m and hoses include steel end cap at one
end and end cap with automotive tire valve to fill with 3-4 bar air at
the other end.

PESTEC has started to supply 118.000 m IP 4 duct system contract for new
Canal link to Dubai Creek constructed by diaphragm wall cages strengthened
by internal bonded PT method.

The new system consists of 100/116 mm ducts, heat shrink pipe and
steel bends.
The total installation period is estimated for 16 month.

PESTEC introduce our SB 4 Coupler System for pressure and corrosion
tight plastic duct connection of internal bonded post tensioning tendons
in pre-cast segmental structures.
Our SB 4 coupler available in HDPE or PP comply to FIB 7 specification
and is designed to cover a maximum segment to segment installation
tolerance of 50 mm caused e.g. by part tolerances, duct elongation,
temperatures, pipe cutting and welding or formwork and segment to
segment gap.
Suitable for corrugated PESTEC IP 3 and IP 4 ducts for internal PT and
smooth PESTEC EP ducts for external PT. Also suitability with other
corrugated ducts for internal PT upon request.

SB 4 coupler systems consist of 2’Outer Couplers’, 1’Inner Coupler’,
1 Sealing No 1, 1 Sealing No 2, 2 end caps for temporary and multiple use.
All PESTEC IP 4 duct sizes ID 58 – 140 mm are available.
Other sizes on request.

PESTEC offers several options for SB coupler delivery either prefabricated
segment ducts on final length consisting of IP 4 duct including mirror
welding of ‘Outer Couplers’ or just the couplers separately for site welding.

Following the crude oil price increase during last months the crude oil based
ethylene as the basic material of polyolefin raw materials like HDPE and PP
pressure pipe grades increased by 34% since February 2008.

Most PESTEC products are made of these materials to comply with
the application specifications and standards.

Due to worldwide limited suppliers offering pressure pipe grade raw materials
sales prices are very similar and so are not subject to the high competition
of mass PE grades like for packing and foils.
For this reason and our experiences, even if the oil price may drop again,
we expect more or less stable prices on this high level in the near future.

PESTEC established a branch office in New Delhi, India under
the name of PESTEC India PVT. LTD.

The staff will cover the project management for local India projects
as well manage PESTEC products production facilities in India.

Pricing and technical support either for India clients will be still
offered from German office.

PESTEC has started to supply 120.000 m EP 1 duct system contract for new
Jebel Ali Palm Main Bridge constructed by external post-tensioning method.

The system consists of 140 mm ducts, expansion sleeves, heat shrink pipe
Couplers, grout port welding system and vent pipe fittings for injection.
The total installation period is estimated for 14 month.

EP 1 Duct system approval according to FIB.

UHP pipes consist of a 3 layer system of inner HDPE PE 100 liner, mid layer
of synthetic fibre and cover layer of uv-stabilized PE 100 material and are
available in 3 types UHP-S, UHP-M and UHP-L depending on pressure rate and
medium temperature.

UHP pipes are available in sizes ID 100 and 125 mm, supplied in 400 m coils
and connected by special couplers and flanges.

The advantages are more easy, efficient and effective installation of
up to 1000 m/day either offshore or onshore, high flow capacity due to lower
friction, so 5’ pipe has same flow rate than 6’ steel pipe and of course the well
known fully corrosion resistance.

Max service pressure and temperature depend on flow media in ranges
for water 36-150 bar, for hydrocarbon fluids 26-65 bar and gas 25-42 bar.
Offshore installation depth depending on media 65-900 m under water.

UHP pipes are produced according several international standards and are
Also certified from several institutes.

PESTEC present latest MSDS for HDPE products with
the intention to provide Health and Safety information
mainly for the case of fire.

Even if HDPE is not regulated as hazardous or dangerous good
for any kind of transport, storing or for installation, and so can be
handled without any special care we want to inform about
Emergency and First Aid measures as well as Fire and Explosion
Hazard Data of this material.

PESTEC introduce new Leak Tightness Test Set suitable to
test leak tightness of duct and pipe systems installed for
various applications.

The set is suitable to tests pipe ID 70-150 mm (3-5 inch)
with both smooth or corrugated inner surface design
for max 0,25 bar (3,5 PSI) according EN 1610 or
FIB Bulletin 7, Chapter 4.2 Clause 2.

The ‘all in’ test equipment set consists of a pneumatic dead end
and a bypass plug to be inflated by an included compressor, filling air
with 7,5l/min at max. 11,5 bar, an equipment adaptor including
air outlet and a digital pressure gauge test equipment
(resolution 1,bar.

The Leak Tightness Test Set is available for rent and sale.

54 m long and 2,65 m high Full Scale Test has been
successfully performed with big sized
ID 130 mm IP 4 M PE Ducts.

4 Tendons 6-43 have been concreted, grouted and stressed
and all results for friction, wobble, tightness, loads and
filling grade have been within the required and specified
FIB 7 and TR 47 values.

PESTEC HDPE PE 80 and PE 100 welding rods now are
packed on environmental friendly paper drums additional
thin plastic protection foil.
2,4 Kg round profile welding rod is available in 3,4 and 5 mm
on our new drums.

Paper drum sizes remain unchanged to fit to welding supports
as before and can get environmental friendly and easy waste,
so special plastic disposal like for previous plastic drums can
be avoided.

PESTEC applied for ETA approval of our IP 4 Duct for use
in internal bonded post-tensioning structures.
As according ETAG 013 regulations ducts are only part of
the complete system and so do not cover the approval of
plastic ducts alone, PESTEC applied for an individual so
called ETA approval of our IP 4 ducts.
Due consents of all EU members are required the duration
for the approval is assumed to take 6-9 month.

PESTEC presents a new recommendation for possible
pipe surface cleaning processes depending on kind of
contamination materials and grade.

PESTEC proudly introduces new PVDF liner and pressure pipe systems.

We use original state of the art Kynar resin from the market leader
Arkema – USA to produce first class PVDF pipes and fittings
according ISO 10931-05 and quality approved to be Kynar labled
from Arkema.

Sizes OD 20 to 200 mm for lining and for pressure applications PN 10
and PN 16 are available.
To complete the pipe system all standard fittings like elbow 90°,
equal tee, socket, reducer, end caps and valves are on stock and
special fittings are available on request as well known from PESTEC.

Each pipe is individually wrapped in foil and perfect packed to avoid
transport damages.

PESTEC introduces the brand new IP 4 Duct Butt Welding Equipment P 160
for fast and easy butt welding of our IP 4 ducts.

The low weight very portable all in one equipment with a weight of 27 Kg only
includes all special clamp sizes for all IP 4 ducts 74, 92, 116,131,146 and
157 mm.
Both materials HDPE and PP and also all available IP 4 duct wall thicknesses
can be weld together based on international welding norms.

Of course planar and heating element are also included and the equipments
work at standard 220-230 Volt.

The IP 4 Duct P 160 Butt Welding Equipments are available to purchase
or on rental basis.

PESTEC has started to supply first quantities of total 115.000 m IP 4 100 mm
duct for new Bagalore elevated Expressway constructed by segmental bridge
method.

The pipes are supplied in fixed length and connected using our PF couplers
and the total installation period is estimated for 14 month.

IP 4 Duct approval according to Indian IRC 18 was achieved by verification
tests.

PESTEC introduce new IP 4 Duct for bonded post tensioning.

The design is very similar to our IP 3 duct and meets latest FIB 7 specifications.
The sizes are slightly modified, so now we offer e.g. 100/116 mm,
115/131 mm. 76/92 mm and 58/74 mm.
IP 4 Duct is available in HDPE and PP and also in different wall thickness’ to
comply with all kind of project specification as well as our clients economical
target.

All kind of components well known from IP 3 are also available for IP 4.

FIB7 and FDOT tests are prepared for execution during the next 2 month, and
due to successful IP 3 Duct test we trust to pass also with the new IP 4 duct.

A new production line with big capacity for IP 4 duct has been established in
India. One big advantage now is the very short production lead time of just
1 week, so in the future we can also serve projects within delivery times of
approx. 4 weeks depending on the location.

First 115000 m order of size 100/116 are in production for Bangalore
Expressway.

PESTEC introduce advanced PUR HMD polyurethane quality optimized
for hydrolyse resistance microbe-resistance, low temperature resistance
by also absorbing dynamic stresses in outdoor use.

First advantage is a new production technology for this material needing
More simple tools only and so saving high injection tool costs as needed for
other material. Either small quantities of individual shapes, e.g. like
for stay cable boots, now can be offered for affordable prices.

Second advantage is the availability of a big variety of colors.

Compared with CR – polychloroprene (common brand name Neoprene)
and CSM – chlorosulfonated polyethylene (common brand name Hypalon)
our PUR HMD material provide excellent weather resistance in black color
and good weather resistance in other colors where CR and CSM only reach
medium to good results.

While wear resistance of PUR HMD is better, all other mechanical properties
like tensile strength, aging, ozone, abrasion, temperature range and
compression set are very similar with CR and CSM.

PESTEC’s Visco elastic gel of epoxy polymer is an invention for long term
corrosion protection of high performance materials in civil structures.

The material has been successfully used on several projects e.g. for stay cable
anchor protection.

Special formulated Gel Epoxy resin and hardener components are mixed at
ambient temperatures, easily injected to smallest cavities because of it’s
high viscosity ( like water) with low pressure during 12-24 hours and
cross linked during polymerization to a visco elastic polymer with
adhesive properties as well as damping properties to the system.

Perfect corrosion protection has been approved by several tests,
e.g. 3 month exposure in salt spray test and salt-water immersion test
as well temperature test. In addition PESTEC Gel Epoxy provide excellent
alkaline resistance during 6 month cement grout compatibility test and
excellent mechanical behaviour in cycle thermal test.

It was further approved to stop started corrosion at it’s level.
Other benefits are volumetric material shrinkage, no material diffusion to
other materials and no temperature increase during polymerization.

PESTEC supplied special connectors in pipe color to connect additional
wind tie rods to NOCX HDPE stay pipes for a project in the USA.

The wind tie connectors are made of same colored HDPE material and supplied
in half shells to be attached at final optimized position by integrated
electro fusion welding method already well experienced for a lot of other
components as well as repair parts for stay cables

The design has a groove to take the metal steel clamp of the tie rod for
perfect function as well as good appearance for the whole cable.

Following the crude oil price increase during last months the crude oil based
ethylene as the basic material of polyolefin raw materials like HDPE and PP
now seems to keep stable on high level.

Raw material suppliers already set up prices by 25% from starting this year
and currently do not announce further increase.

The ethylen cracker capacities are back to full operation, but due to high
demands we expect stable prices for next half year by no price decrease
in the near future.

by the plastic pipe industry or are related to the manufacture,

New dark blue metallic effect colour has been chosen to underline
the bridge design and durable protection of the stay cable structure
of a bridge in the Czech Republic.

PESTEC also provides the HDPE system components in the same
color to complete the system.

Since a couple of years more and more bridge designers go for
metallic effect colors like silver or gold and now blue.

Our experiences, references as well as our outstanding uv-test results
either for metallic effect colored NOCX pipes convince the
project designers, project engineers as well the subcontractors to
decide for metallic effect color.

First use of our DHPS Half pipes with incorporated longitudinal sealing
for a project in La Reunion with special fire protection requirement.
Half pipe color will be white. PESTEC uses the same well developed and
tested white NOCX color we also used for several projects for solid pipes.

Our Half pipes will be installed over the bundles of HDPE coated strands
which are covered with special 10 mm double layer fire protection blankets.
The fire protection blankets did pass the required 1000 °C hydrocarbon
fire test with a duration of 1 hour by keeping the steel strand temperature
less than 100°C.

Installation will be made by pressing the half pipes together and using our
click system and lock them in position. Full strength radial joints are secured
by butt welded using our special half pipe butt welding equipment.
To complete the system, special components to connect the half pipes to
pylon and deck will be supplied from PESTEC.

Our experiences and references convinced the project designers and
project engineers to choose our half pipes for this special application.

PESTEC present updated detailed test information on a uv-test called
SEPAP and which we noticed in some project specifications in the past.
Focus is the prediction of long term polymer stabilization based on
extreme short time acceleration.

We did test our NOCX pipes in this test 2 times in the past and
due to the partly different test results versus our standard Xenotest
and WOM tests we searched for the reasons therefore.

SEPAP test did not reach international acceptance up to now and has
not been approved from experts for an international norm.
Main reasons seem to be the use of non-natural light radiation with
very high energy causing molecule absorptions, polymer and
additive damages and excessive polymer oxidation.

stiffness classes 2 – 12 SN according ISO 9969.

FKS PEG Pressure Pipes have solid wall and smooth inner and

The sealing is designed to clamp the IP-3 duct in perfect position,
so pipe removal is possible using a special removal tool only.

Tightness tests acc FIB recommendation bulletin 7 for air tightness
of 0,3 bar for minimum 5 minutes have successfully passed
without loss.

So the PFS coupler is offered as a good option for the tight
Connection of our IP-3 Duct in internal Post tensioning
applications and might save the installation costs and installation
time of additional heat shrinks sleeves or heat shrink pipes.

We proudly announce the supply contract for Nan Chong Cable Stay Bridge
in China now built using PESTEC DHP Half pipes in orange colour.

PESTEC also provides the special half pipe welding equipment and
spacer system to complete the system.

Swinging cables during high wind crashed against street lamps on
Dubrovnik Bridge, Croatia and smashed the NOCX-HDPE pipes in
About 10 m height in sections of about 60 cm.

The smashed sections were carefully cur out using a special circular
saw with adjustable height to avoid cutting into the inner
HDPE coated strands and our special electro fusion half pipe repair
couplers of same stay pipe colour were successfully installed

Our repair coupler system is designed to replace the original stay pipe
section by taking the same calculated loads of pipe and welding forces.

First delivery of plastic duct for internal Post-tensioning in South Africa for
about 11000 m of IP-3 M PP have been delivered for Uli-Ilangeli project.

Pipe connections were made using PF couplers.

IP 3 Duct approval was achieved by meeting the strict project requirements.

Following the crude oil price increase during last months the crude oil based
ethylene as the basic material of polyolefin raw materials like HDPE and PP
increase by nearly 20% during the last 3 month.

Raw material suppliers already set up prices by 15% by end of September
and allready announced another 10% for October.

The ethylen cracker capacities are still limited versus demands,
so price decrease in the near time cannot be expected.

Since the raw material part of the final PESTEC product sales price
depend a lot on the kind of production, the necessary price increases
vary for each product line.
To support our customers as much as possible for their tenders
and projects by lowest possible price increases, PESTEC will limit them
to the raw material part only.

PESTEC apologize for the need to limit the validity of new quotations
to 1 month from now on until the market will relax again.

in Australia now built in Brisbane using PESTEC NOCX pipes in

News 11    IP 3 S-PE Duct for Thread Bar Protection in
Abu Dhabi - UAE

To protect Thread Bars in post tensioning on Sheikh Zayed Bridge to
Abu Dhabi Island nearly 10000 m of PESTEC IP 3 S-PE Ducts are going
to be used.

Thread bars of 32, 40, 50 and 75 mm will be protected with IP 3 S-PE Ducts
in sizes up to 114/99 mm.
To complete the corrosion protection system, PESTEC heat shrink couplers,
corrugated pipes to cover the thread bar couplers and special PE reductions
including grout ports will be used.

IP 3 Duct approval was achieved by meeting the strict project requirements.

News 10    New  HDPE Grout Port Connection for PT Steel Ducts

PESTEC has developed a connection between HDPE and corrugated
PT steel ducts for professional look and performance to avoid
standard methods of sealing and taping of port vents in the future.

Installation is easy and fast. It needs just to drill a hole into the steel duct,
to heat up the HDPE grout port same as in our well experienced
grout port welding system, to fix heated grout port in the steel duct
and to spread it by using our special tool. The HDPE grout port is tight
and tough fixed in the hole and can not be removed.

Standard spiral corrugated vent pipe 21/28 mm can be connected
to the grout ports. Modified grout ports to fit to smooth vent ducts
or other customized solutions can be offered.

News 9    New NOFX HDPE Electro fusion Coupler now in sizes
               up to 630 mm

Best quality moulded electro fusion couplers in NOFX HDPE colored material
including bar code label to use with all kind of universal electro fusion
welding equipments.

Available in all colors of our big color variety and produced of best uv- and
material stabilized NOFX HDPE color to match with our NOCX pipes.

The electro fusion coupler are designed for possible butt welding to pipe
if considered to use as telescopic sleeve. Perfect function and tightness
either if manufactured with sliding performance property.
Of course successful tests acc standard e-fitting tests have been achieved.

Available in all standard sizes 110-630 mm in SDR 11-32 as well as in all
special sizes on request.

Please note minimum order quantity of 50 pc. required.

News 8    New Butt Welding Quality Test Comparison  

PESTEC performed a new test comparison of welded versus
non welded NOCX pipes quality.

PESTEC butt welding requirements are to reach 100% of initial
non welded pipe quality in yield stress and tensile strain at yield
with a tolerance of  +10% / -5% only.
This requirement far exceeds the norm requirement of 80% only.
The test results of +2,75 / -4,5 fully comply to our PESTEC requirements.

As a conclusion for static and quality reasons it is to assume,
that non welded NOCX pipe sections are of same quality as the butt welded
NOCX pipe sections. 

New Grout Vent Ports with NPT Thread are now also available
in HDPE color black.

By professional fast and easy connection Grout Vent Ports are weld to
HDPE PT Ducts with either smooth or corrugated design for rigid
and tight connection with NPT threaded high pressure grouting pipes.

The Grout Vent Ports are weld to the ducts using small and lightweight
PESTEC welding equipment with professional installation design and
avoid any taping or sealing known from other connection systems.

HDPE Grout Ports NPT comply to ASTM D 3350 PE 345444 C material
norm as well to FIB technical report bulletin 7 and FDOT PT
recommendations Section 462 requirements. Welding is in accordance
with fusion welding norms ASTM D 2657 and DVS 2207 part 2.

News 6    Raw Material Price Update and Forecast

Following the crude oil price stabilization during last 4 month the
crude oil based ethylene as the basic material of polyolefin raw
materials like HDPE and PP did perform with little increase anymore.

We forecast raw material price stabilization during the next couple of
month even raw material suppliers announce still price increases
during that time.

The ethylen cracker capacities are still limited versus demands,
so price decrease cannot be expected.

PESTEC keeps watching closely the price trend to stay in the position
to offer 3 month quotation validity to support our customers with
confirmed purchase prices during tender periods.

News 5    OIT Test for IP 3 PE and PP ducts acc
PTI requirements passed

We successfully passed OIT test executed at independent german
laboratory acc ASTM D 3895 performed on our IP 3 PE and
PP ducts acc. Latest PTI requirements to provide valuable
characterization parameter for evaluation of the polymer
long term stabilities

• 462 – 4.2.5.5 and 4.2.3 for corrugated ducts and
  system components like inlets, outlets, valves and
  plugs made of PE or PP for minimum 20 minutes

• 462 – 4.2.5.6 for smooth PE ducts for minimum
  40 minutes

We want to point out that the test ducts are taken from standard
production using PESTEC HDPE and PP standard materials
not containing any special metal deactivator additives.
Metal deactivator additives can increase short time OIT results
without providing any long term property increase or advantage.

To protect both sides of the 2500 m long and 10 m high facade of the
railway approach of historical Antwerp Railway Station from year 1905
still in operation today, the new HSL - High Speed Railway Station is
designed on underground levels under the present rails.

Construction method are tunnel works using prestressed beams and
excavate the ground part by part to reach -2 level underground.

More than 17000 m PESTEC IP 3 M PP Duct of sizes ID 85 and ID 100
have been installed for corrosion protection of internal post-tensioning
of the beams. To complete the corrosion protection system,
PESTEC PF duct couplers, grout ports welded to the ducts, as well as
vent pipes, valves and end caps have been used for perfect grouting.

IP 3 Duct approval was achieved by meeting the
strict project requirements.

We proudly received the first contract worldwide using OD 400 mm
HDPE pipe to cover the biggest stays ever used.

7000 m NOCX HDPE pipe OD 400 mm SDR 21 including external spiral
in grey color will be installed on a US bridge in the state of Maine
starting April next year.

For this new size a new tool for the external spiral needs to be
produced.
We will also supply several components in the same grey color to
complete the system.

Our very well matured pipes, already providing extraordinary features
in uv stability, heat and micro crack resistance on more than
100 projects worldwide for very competitive price, were chosen from
the project designers, project engineers as well the subcontractor
as the most efficient and economical solution to protect the strands
and cover them long term in favourable design.
